Cable Car

The Ely Cable Car was one of 25 cars that were rebuilt from the ashes of 50 that were destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire. Before 1906, there were more than 600 cable cars in San Francisco. By 1912 there were less than 200. Today there are 40. Our #38 car ran in San Francisco from 1906 till its retirement in 1950.

If you see a QR code next to a piece of equipment, use your smart phone to scan it and learn more about that item.
