1890 Kelseyville Jail
Built by Kelseyville carpenters Del Reeder and William Kelsey, this structure was located behind the Kelseyville Courthouse while in use. It’s first occupant was Will Miller, who was arrested and jailed for disturbing the peace in Kelseyville.
In 1900 this jail was added to the county court system and used as a holding cell for the Lakeport Jail.
Though exterior siding has been replaced, all metal hardware is the original hand forged metal.
The jail as it arrived at the Ely Museum.
Due to termites and dry-rot, before placement, a new foundation and lower wall section had to be built.
How to get the jail onto the lower wall.
Do it like the Egyptians, slide it on pipes slimed with Downey Fabric Softener.
Sliding into place.
Almost there.
A new facing of shingles.
Some interior decoration.
And it is time for the Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting.
How it looked originally.

The jail was made a branch of the County Jail in 1900.
Though Black Bart held up Lake County Stages, he was never incarcerated here.
